Our Mission
Founded in 2010 by Tara Brooke Watkins, The South Shore School of Theatre provides training for the theatre in singing, acting, dancing, and backstage craft. Our goal is to welcome students of all skill levels and ethnic backgrounds to help them succeed and excel beyond their own expectations. We accomplish this by offering various age-appropriate levels of classes; teaching our students how to create sets, costumes, and props; providing internship and work-study opportunities; and offering elective courses that teach technical and advanced performance skills. Another major part of our mission at SSST is to train the next generation of teachers in the field. While other programs ask or even require parents to assist in large capacities, we try to give them a break and pride ourselves in offering recent graduates and current college students internships to gain practical field experience. Jobs at SSST have often been filled by those who have started as interns and are ready to take on a larger role. Whether they dream of pursuing a career in film, on Broadway, or continuing their studies at a performing arts college, we believe in our students and interns and supply them with the skills to help make their dreams come true!
Our Location
The South Shore School of Theatre (SSST) hopes to not only provide essential performing arts classes, but to be a theatre home for students in the urban Boston area and in the suburbs of the South Shore. Seated on the beautiful, T-accessible campus of Eastern Nazarene College in the Cove Fine Arts Center, SSST ensures a safe, friendly, family-oriented learning environment. This theatrically-challenging atmosphere provides students the benefit of performing on a professional stage within the positive energy of college life.
*While the South Shore School of Theatre is located on the campus of Eastern Nazarene College, we are not affiliated with or sponsored by ENC.
